A POST-FLOOD RELIEF MISSION BY KSASPer REDAH TEAM IN KARAK, PAHANG

On December 29th, 2021 (Wednesday), the Centre of Foundation Studies for Agricultural Science has mobilised KSASPer REDAH, a team consisting of PASP staff, for a post-flood relief mission. Initially, the mission was to help affected staff living in Banting, Selangor, however, the mission had to be aborted since they had received advanced aid from another volunteer team. Fortunately, there was a call for help from people in Karak, Pahang. With the aid of the Flood Relief Operating Room (BOBB, UPM), the team was able to fulfil their noble dream of participating and helping to ease the flood victims’ burden. The team had also managed to obtain financial allocation through the donations of the PASP management team and staff.

A team of 22 staff and a student was led by Dr. Emma Ziezie Mohd Tarmizi and was accompanied by two PASP management representatives, namely Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Nurul Ain Md. Jamil and Tuan Haji Mat Razi Abdullah. The team was provided with a bus from UPM, and they departed from PASP as early as 8.30 a.m. Before the departure, PASP held a send-off ceremony for KSASPer REDAH heroes. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marina Mohd. Top @ Mohd. Tah, Director of the Centre of Foundation Studies for Agricultural Science cum Head of Operations, together with other staff, sent wave of well-wishes and waved the UPM flag.

The team arrived at the location after more than 2 hours of journey and was greeted with a view of 1 foot of thick mud. But their spirits were not deterred as the host, a friendly and kind-hearted Madam Shila, welcomed the team with open arms. The clean-up work went smoothly as all members worked together to clean the mud-filled house by digging up and removing the mud.

The team worked under the scorching sun until 5 p.m. Although the KSASPer REDAH team was tired, they remained cheerful once the photographer clicked the shutter. The team boarded the bus and started their journey back to UPM at 6 p.m. and arrived safely at 8 p.m.

Thanks to the Almighty God for giving this precious opportunity to the KSASPer REDAH team to help those people who were in distress due to the flood. May the efforts of those who were involved in this mission, be it planners, donors, or executors, be blessed by Allah S.W.T.
