Wednesday, 14th August 2024 - Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 8(1) or SMKPP8(1) with Persatuan Alumni University Texas (PAUT) in collaboration with Centre for Foundation Studies in Science of Universiti Putra Malaysia (ASPutra) Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering UPM, Faculty of Medicine and Health Science UPM, Shah Alam Polytechnic, Banting Polytechnic, Community College Banting dan Petra Energy Berhad organized the Amazing STEM @ SMKPP8(1) program.
The objective of the program is to highlight the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to the students of SMKPP8(1) which consists of Form 1 to Form 5 students. A variety of STEM activities were carried out during the program which saw participations from around 1400 SMKPP8(1) students. This program also includes an intensive Mathematics class session, Cakna Evolusi Sifir (CakES) and motivational talks session from PAUT members. The program started at 8.30 am and lasted until 2.00 pm at several locations around the SMKPP8(1).
For this program, ASPutra had carried out three STEM activities, each from the Biology, Physics and Agriculture units. Among the interactive activities carried out are Exploring Fingerprint, Sound Sensor dan ASPutra Agrokit. Along with the STEM activities, ASPutra also opened a promotional booth to provide the students with introduction and information on ASPutra specifically and UPM generally.
Overall, the program yields positive impacts on the students. Students’ attendance to the activity and promotion sites were highly encouraging. Active participations from various entities showed that STEM activities are received well at the school, community and industry level. ASPutra is serious in community and industry involvement in spreading STEM knowledge to schools. Therefore, these programs will be improved and intensified from time to time with the active participation from outside entities such as schools, local communities and industries either big or small, in parallel with the Education Ministry’s policy towards strengthening the implementation of STEM Education in schools.
