The Centre of Foundation Studies for Agricultural Science celebrated the Merdeka Month from August 19 till August 30, 2019.

Various events were held in order to ignite the spirit of independence among students and staff members.

This programme is an annual event that began in 2018. A variety of activities was planned and executed throughout the Merdeka month and participation was opened to all students and staff members of the Centre of Foundation Studies of Agricultural Science.

This year, all activities were held from August 19 till August 30, 2010 at Kolej Kediaman and at the Centre of Foundation Studies of Agricultural Science, UPM.

Apart from the 80 staff members of the centre, these activities also targeted ASPer students of 2019/2020 session which consists of 874 students. The programme’s target was achieved as the programme received an encouraging response. Almost 80% of students participated in the activities held.

Parliamentary Style Merdeka Debate Competition

The debate competition this year consisted of debates in the Malay and the English Language. For the Malay Language Debate Competition, 7 teams consisting of a total of 28 students took part in the competition. Meanwhile the English Language Debate Competition saw the participation of 6 teams consisting of a total of 24 students. The competition in both languages was held from 8 p.m. till 12.30 p.m. at Kolej 13, UPM.

The method used in judging the debate was based on the standard system of debate competitions and juries were volunteers who were made of staff members and ASPer alumni.

For the Malay Language Debate Competition, the debating team from Kuliah 6 was named as the winner while second place was won by the debating team from Kuliah 10.

The debating team from Kuliah 16 won first place for the English Language division and the second place was won by the debating team consisting of students from Kuliah 7, 12 and 17.
